No Bailout, But Cougars Get A Nice Stimulus Package

Even U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geitner can't bail out BYU and other MWC basketball teams against the UNLV home court advantage in the MWC tournament, but the Cougars did get a pretty nice stimulus package yesterday.

It came front and center when the MWC post-season awards were announced. The honors are doled out by the nine MWC coaches and a select panel of media.

Jimmer Fredette was the only Cougar on the first team all conference selection list. He also came up short in Player of the Year voting. Darrington Hobson of New Mexico captured that award.

Steve Alford was also selected as coach of the year.

If BYU needed extra motivation for this week's upcoming MWC tournament in Las Vegas, they now have all the stimulus they need to play well.

BYU fans would love to see a BYU-New Mexico rematch in the championship game on Saturday. We don't see it happening, however, because we don't see UNM getting by San Diego State in the second round game on Friday.

We do have hope for BYU finally in their projected second round match up against UNLV. This is our barometer game. If BYU can't beat UNLV, we don't expect them to beat anybody in the NCAA tournament. If the Cougars do finally find a way to defeat the Rebels, we like a good run by BYU the next week.
